Wisdom Wednesday: Foster Child Safety and Youth Rights

Safety, permanency and well-being are the key federal measures for a quality child welfare system. Above all else, safety is paramount for foster children. There are systems in place and procedures to consider to monitor the safety of foster children while in care. In addition, there are established Youth Rights granted to all foster children in care which can help contribute to a positive well-being for foster children.

Learning Objectives

In this Zoom presentation, advocates will be able to:
- Identify key safety systems in place for foster children
- Familiarize with foster child Youth Rights
- Review monitoring children and maintaining house rules

Participants will receive 1 hour of continuing education credit.

Biography:
Matt Priest has worked in child welfare and has been an advocate for children and foster families for over two decades. He has been a champion of improving the foster care system through safety , permanency and well-being. Matt serves as the Director of Foster Family Services with Boys Town, with national headquarters located in Omaha, Nebraska. Matt is also the Chair of the Nebraska Chapter of the Family Focused Treatment Association (FFTA).
